Not
happened for a while. Old BBC staff often saw it when it was a BBC building.
One ghost, but BBC
say
more. Famous ghost room is 333. German prince left at the altar and he
threw himself from balcony.
But
he kept popping back. Harmless. Appears annually in October. James Burns
tells a story his mother
told
him about the Langham:
Here's a story of the BBC.
There's a very old hotel in London, England. It's also famous for being
haunted. Some college ladies were staying there. In the middle of the night,
one of the college girl saw a man in his room. He was in victorian dress
and emitted a blue glow. The man was
terrified
by the apparition and threw his boot at it. The boot sailded straight through
the ghost and hit the door. The ghost then
gradually
disappeared. The very curious thing was that it had no
feet.
The floor cut him off at the shins so it was as though he was wading through
the floor. The man asked the manager about it and the manager admitted
that that room was haunted by a victorian ghost. THe explanation for the
ghost having no feet was that
since
the victorian times, central heating had been added. This
meant
the floors of the hotel had to be raised several inches. Therefore, when
the ghost was alive, the floor he was walking on was below the current
floor.
Haunted Pubs in London
The
Volunteer Pun, Baker Street, NW1
A manor
house that belonged to the Neville Family burnt down in 1654 and the spirit
of Robert Neville lingers on in the place, lurking in the dark recesses
of the cellar in surcoat, breeches and fancy stockings.
The
Black Swan, Bow Road, E3
The
ghosts of the unfortunates killed when the original Black Swan was destroyed
in a Zeppelin Raid in 1916, haunt the modern pub
The
Old Queens Head, Essex Road, Canonbury, N1
The
original pub of the same name on this site was used by Sir Walter Raleigh,
but it was pulled down. This pub is haunted by a lady in Tudor dress and
a sad little girl. On the first Sunday of the month the doors are opened
and closed by unseen hands and the sound of footsteps is heard.
The
Gun Inn, Coldharbour, Docklands, E14
The
ghost of Horatio Nelson is said to haunt this pub; he used to meet Lady
Hamilton here.
Spaniards
Inn, Hampstead, London, NW3
This
is the inn that used to be the base of Dick Turpin, the highwayman. His
spirit can be seen riding
across
the Heath.
Ye Old
Gate House, Highgate Hill, N6
This
pub dates from 1306 and was originally a drovers pub. The ghost is Mother
Marnes, murdered for her money. She is seen wearing a black dress, but
never when children or animals are on the premises.
The
Langham, Langham Place, W1 Right next to the British Museum, this hotel
has hosts of spirits seeping through the walls. A scholarly man has been
seen sitting in one of the modern bedrooms. He seems to be enjoying the
sunshine, because
this
was once a garden.
